Dining at The Heathley Park Pub & Grill, Leicester.

Now the nights are drawing in, cosy evenings spent dining at the pub is top of my list. We were invited by the Greene King Local Pubs* to visit one of their pubs in Leicester to give it our approval. Situated on Groby Road in Leicester (around a 15-minute drive from the City Centre) is Heathley Park Pub & Grill, a family friendly pub that serves the best in class steak, straight from the grill.

The pub itself is exceptionally spacious, with a designated area for dining and another if you are just joining their team for a drink. The design is modern and comfortable and we were quickly taken to our table for the night. Be mindful that this pub can be full of children, therefore, I would recommend you look ahead to what time you'd like to dine if you are looking for a more quiet and relaxed affair. We were seated by quite some noise but it did simmer down by the time we started to eat our meals.

The menu at Heathley Park is vast; there's the best in grill as well as some pub favourites that can't go amiss!

To begin with, I opted for my ultimate comfort food this time of year and went for the Mini Baked Camembert. I wasn't disappointed, petite in size but full of cheese and served with chargrilled sourdough bread, caramelised onion chutney and chargrilled peppers. I hadn't before combined the flavours of peppers with Camembert but it totally works and was delicious! There isn't always enough bread to smoother in cheese and so I definitely would say having the option for more bread with this starter to be an absolute must.

Jordan decided to have five delicious buttermilk chicken wings with Texan BBQ. He thought the meat was incredibly tender and couldn't eat them quick enough!

Coming to the main event I decided to try one of their pub favourite dishes and went for the Grilled Gammon Steaks. It came served with a grilled pineapple wedge, a fried free-range egg, seasoned chips and peas. The presentation and amount of food on the plate was next to none, it looked as delicious as it tasted. The gammon was cooked how I liked it and I enjoyed digging into the pineapple wedge and egg to accompany the salty taste of the steak.

Jordan was excited to try their 7oz 14-day-matured fillet steak as he doesn't often have this at restaurants. On presentation, the steak looked delicious and he had it with all the trimmings and peppercorn sauce. Unfortunately, Jordan was disappointed. He asked for his steak to be cooked medium rare and while it was cooked correctly it was completely dry, as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp. It's unlike Jordan to say something so we requested a new steak to be cooked for us. They didn't have any more fillets which was a slight let down after the promise of a fillet, so he had to settle for something else and went for the Sirloin steak instead. That steak was a lot more tender and he managed to enjoy the second steak a lot.

To finish off our meal we went for the Cookie Dough cheesecake with ice cream and the Bakewell Tart with clotted cream ice cream and cherry compote. They were both delicious, the best way to finish off the meal!

Whilst the steak was disappointing, everything else at The Heathley Park was really enjoyable. We would try the restaurant the second time around and hopefully be able to sample their fillet steak, especially as Jordan was looking forward to it. The Heathley Park Pub & Grill is a great place to dine and relax in the evening, especially if you don't fancy doing the washing up for one night.
