The Great Brick Safari at Twycross Zoo, Leicestershire
Twycross Zoo is based on the Leicestershire/Warwickshire border and is an award-winning conservation charity in the heart of England. The Zoo also has an award-winning schools programme and delivers fun for all the family 364 days of the year. Twycross Zoo is set in more than 80-acres and have around 500 animals of almost 100 different species to see. We headed there on a day out and had a great time!
The zoo is renowned as a World Primate Centre and has a wide variety of monkeys and apes including the UK's only group of bonobos.
I've been going to Twycross Zoo ever since I was little and always have fond memories of a day out there. The place has expanded massively and it's become one of my favourite places to go. There's so much for you to do! There's a walk-through enclosure for the ring-tailed lemurs, you can watch their Humboldt penguins take their daily walk and now there's a fantastic Gibbon Forest and Chimpanzee Eden to check out too. You can feed the lorikeets and walk through their Butterfly Forest. You could literally spend hours in this zoo and that's what makes it so great.
One of my favourite additions to Twycross Zoo is their Himalaya Centre where The View restaurant is situated. Not only can you enjoy a fantastic range of homemade, freshly prepared meals (I went for the burger and it was DELICIOUS!) but it overlooks the snow leopard enclosure. There's nothing more remarkable than dining in the restaurant and being up close to the snow leopards (the photo doesn't justify how close we actually were).
During our visit, we had to check out one of their incredible Ranger Talks to find out more about the incredible animals they look after. We settled for the Penguin Parade but there are talks about the Meerkats, Chimpanzees, Giraffes and plenty more! If you're an avid animal lover then you'll love these talks!
There's something pretty exciting happening at Twycross Zoo right now that we were there to check out! Twycross Zoo is calling all LEGO® Brick-fans! to bring their family and explored the world-famous Great Brick Safari which is open until 7th January.
The Great Brick Safari is made from nearly 900,000 LEGO® bricks and took over 7,500 hours to build. There are over 70 lifesized LEGO® brick animals in this interactive safari experience PLUS lots of surprises along the way. This includes a LEGO Brick Pit, Make & Take Activities and Selfie Spots! All of this is included in your zoo admission ticket. It's really good fun and you can follow the Safari Spotters Trail and tick them off your map - great fun for the kids!
Their fascinating structures and it was great fun getting up and close with them. I couldn't believe the attention to detail each animal had. A couple of my favourites were the Lion and Zebra which had ridiculously gorgeous detail on them.
