Dining at The Grange Farm, Leicester with Vintage Inns.
Vintage Inns have over 180 dog-friendly pubs dotted throughout the UK. The company prides themselves on classic British dishes, cask ales and rustic buildings within beautiful countryside settings. I haven’t visited a Vintage Inn pub in years so a visit to the Grange Farm in Oadby, Leicester was welcomed. The pub has recently undergone a refit and becomes a gorgeous venue to dine and drink day in and day out.
The building which is now known as The Grange Farm is around 150 years old. As the name would suggest the land on which the pub stands was originally an agricultural smallholding. It was through the brewing of locally grown barley to meet the village’s demand for real ale that enabled the building to evolve into what it is now.
The pub oozes rural charm and rustic character resulting in a place that has a fantastic balance for dining or just enjoying a drink. Picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring hearty, seasonal pub food on their menu. Grange Farm hasn’t forgotten to include nurtured cask ales and fine wines available at their bar too. The space within the restaurant is far more vast than I expected. We were quickly seated at our table where we could hear the comforting sound of a crackling fire and a hum of voices enjoying their food too.
To begin our meal I decided on the Soup of the Day which was Tomato and Basil. It came served with rustic bread and came with a punch of flavour. Jordan opted for the Fishcakes which he thoroughly enjoyed and finished within minutes.
Chicken and Mushroom pie is comfort food of all foods so as soon as I saw it on the menu I knew I needed to have it for my main course. I wasn’t disappointed! I loved tucking into the flakey puff pastry to find chunks of chicken in a chardonnay, woodland mushroom and leek sauce. It came with spring onion mash (which was surprisingly delicious, I didn’t know what to expect from this) and seasonal vegetables. All of the flavours provided the perfect comfort for this time of year. Jordan went for the Hunters Chicken style dish which came with a jug of BBQ Sauce you could pour yourself. Jordan said it tasted as good at it looked!
Leaving the best to last I had their Chocolate Brownie, warmed up with Irish liqueur ice cream. It was the perfect finishing touch to my meal. J went for their Winter Eton Mess, he said it was delicious!
I will definitely be visiting The Grange Farm for a winter warmer soon!
