Last night, Astravaganza Entertainment delivered a spirited performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's popular musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Held at The Exchange in North Shields, the production was a vibrant display of enthusiasm, creativity, and surprising talent.

Leading the charge was Chris Perry, who brought a refreshing sincerity to the role of Joseph. Perry's vocals were consistently strong with a stunning tone, particularly during "Close Every Door," where his emotional depth was palpable. The Narrator, played by Gina Faed, served as a dynamic guide through Joseph's journey, with a voice that resonated beautifully in the intimate setting.

Supporting roles, including the brothers, Potiphar and his wife and the Pharaoh, added layers of humour and charm to the production with each and every member giving full passion and heart. The ensemble’s rendition of "One More Angel in Heaven" was a standout, with a special shout out to Corey Clarke, who shone throughout. The children's chorus, always a highlight in this musical, was delightful, infusing the show with youthful energy and innocence.

Directed by David Ducasse, the production embraced the eclectic nature of the musical. The staging was inventive, making full use of the limited space with clever use of projection to set the scenes. The use of colourful props and costumes enhanced the visual appeal, staying true to the "Technicolor" promise of the title.

Among the many high points, "Go, Go, Go Joseph" stood out for its infectious energy and vibrant choreography. The audience couldn't help but tap their feet and clap along, ending Act 1 in style. The sultry "Song of the King" performed with a blend of exuberance and style, "Those Canaan Days" portrayed with great humour and energy by all involved, and "Benjamin Calypso" was a triumph.

This production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was a testament to the talent and dedication of everyone involved. The cast and crew should be immensely proud of their accomplishment. Their passion for theatre shone through, making for an entertaining and memorable evening that celebrated the joy of storytelling through music and performance.
