Edinburgh Fringe Chats (#22): Barry Morgan, BARRY MORGAN’S HOME ORGAN EXPERIENCE

Conducted by Emmie for Theatre and Tonic

As anticipation builds for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025, we’re catching up with a range of exciting creatives preparing to bring their work to the world’s largest arts festival this August. In this series, we delve into the stories behind the shows, the inspiration driving the artists, and what audiences can expect.

Today we’re joined by Barry Morgan about the show Barry Morgan’s Home Organ Experience.

1. Can you begin by telling us about your show and what inspired it?

The Home Organ Party Experience is a fast paced arm chair ride through the era of Sunday afternoon singalongs with friends and family. Including the hits of yesterday, today as well as being as modern as tomorrow, this show I’ll have you measuring up your door frame to check if Barry’s organ will fit inside!

Inspired by the many gregarious salesman characters that have sold us mixed medicines, second hand cars and possibly gone on to rule the world.

2. What made you want to bring this work to the Fringe this year?

To bring a little HOPE to Scotland and spread the joy of the organ. To demonstrate how easy it is to make beautiful instant music yourself with the One Finger setting for beginners.  Any finger will do, just Touch Release Smile.

Plus…..Nancy Morgan (my mum) wanted some of her ashes sprinkled in Scotland.  She always had a soft spot for Arthur’s seat

3. How would you describe your show in three words?

Joyful cheeky mayhem

4. What do you hope audiences take away from watching your performance?

A lust for life

A renewed love of organs with the bossa nova

A sore jaw from smiling

The HOPE Barry will be (a) present at your family’s Hogmanay celebration!

5. What’s your top tip for surviving the Fringe?

Sleeping in a motorhome with a big organ in the back. Living on bread, cheese & Campari. Spruiking the streets everyday wearing a Safari Suit and cravat with a battery operated strap on organ - Yamaha PC100.

6. Where and when can people see your show?

The World Famous Frankensteins

On George the IV Bridge

The heart of Edinburghs Old Town

A stones throw from the Royal Mile
