Cafe Rouge's Secret Steak Supper Club, Birmingham

Cafe Rouge is a French restaurant chain that brings to the table classic French dishes with a contemporary twist to the UK. I have definitely grew more of an interest in trying new dishes from the around the world, so being invited to the Secret Steak Supper Club at Birmingham's Mailbox was definitely up my street.

Located in the Mailbox, it is known as Birmingham's most stylish shopping, lifestyle and restaurant destination. It's also just a stone throw away from Birmingham's Bullring and Grand Central station. Cafe Rouge has a real vibe to it once you walk in and the team quickly ensure your seated and dealt with for your first drink.

The team at Birmingham's Mailbox left no stone un-turned, they quickly filled my glass with some of their Crozes Hermitage, La Tuilere, Jean-Luc Colombo 2015 red wine. This wine completely took my surprise, showcasing a real comforting taste compared to the bitter like taste I sometimes feel with red wines. I'll definitely be looking into purchasing some of this for a Valentine's meal because it's perfect.

There was plenty of choice on offer within their menu for the evening, I opted to try their new starter the Egg Meurette which was delicious. It was an poached egg in a red wine, bacon and sauteed mushroom sauce served with chargrilled sourdough bread. The only thing that let me down was there wasn't enough bread to soak in all of the sauce but our waiter for the evening was quick to resolve that for us and it was an delight. Jordan thoroughly enjoyed trying their new Salmon Rillettes dish, saying that it was really lightly flavoured but very satisfying.

The Cafe Rouge team's focus for the evening was to showcase their steaks that were on offer in their menu, as well as some of the sauces that can go alongside those. My absolute favourite was the Fillet Steak which was soft to eat and was lovely with their Beef Dripping Merlot Gravy and the traditional Peppercorn Sauce. I will definitely be ordering one of those when I next visit!

Our mains for the night were definitely a good choice, I went for the option of trying their Poulet Breton (fun fact Poulet is the only word besides the greetings in French that I actually understand!). I really love the mushroom, courgettes, leeks and herb wine sauce that went alongside the chicken. I can imagine that it would be a really enjoyable dish when the sun is shining later this year too. Jordan on the other hand tried their Confit De Canard, a duck dish served with dauphinoise potatoes (had major food envy when I saw the potatoes!)  and french beans.

I'm surprised that I even had enough room left in my stomach to squeeze in some puddings, woohoo! I absolutely loved the serving of some tasters from their Dessert Menu for us to try, our favourites was definitely the Tarte Au Citron, a delicious lemon tart and creme fraiche as well as the their Creme Brulee which is delicious!

I would definitely urge you to check our Cafe Rouge and their fabulous menu, they have some great deals for lunch and Valentines too!
