6 Books on My Summer Reading List.

Is there anything better to do over summer then read as many books as possible? probably not.

My bookshelf is getting pretty damn full of unread books and my Kindle is bursting with new titles but there's still not enough hours in the day, still. 

Last week I completed I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and was Shot by the Taliban which took way too longer to read than I expected. I also stopped reading The Loney because I just couldn't engage in the book whatsoever. Therefore I feel like I can now begin in reading my Summer reading list. 

I doubt that I'll get through these 6 months by the end of August/beginning of Summer. It's because I'll be either too busy to give some time to reading or I'll be adding more to the list (this always happens!). I'm going to make a great attempt and try to not get too involved in reading book lists that add to the ever increasing to-read list. 

(We all know that's a lie and I'll never stop looking at book lists!) 

When I was younger one of the things I did most summers was to head to the local library and get involved with whatever reading challenge they had going on. It was a great opportunity for me to immerse myself in as many books as possible, it was usually around 6 or so that I would get through in the space of the 5/6 weeks holiday I had at school.

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

I have wanted to read this book since the release of the new TV series based on the book recently, it's a pretty hard-hitting topic too. The book is set in The Republic of Gilead who offers Offred only one function: to breed. It's a powerful take on 21st century America and I'm already a few chapters in and loving it! 

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K Rowling

I've recently purchased the Hufflepuff edition of the first title in the Harry Potter series and it's so pretty. It wouldn't be right if I went over the summer without reintroducing myself to the magical world, especially so in it's 20th anniversary year! 

Wildflower by Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore is definitely up there as one of my favourite actresses so it's no surprise that when she released this book it's been on my to-read list for a while. It's quite a short insight into her life as a young actress growing up in America and I'm definitely looking forward to reading this one with a few gins in the garden over summer!

All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

I was kindly gifted this book by my friend and fellow book lover Ali earlier this year, it's a bit of a beast so I have been looking for the perfect time to get into the book. The story is a novel about a blind French girl and a German boy whose paths collide in occupied France as both try to survive the devastation of World War II. I feel like this will be the most emotional read over summer! 

American Gods by Neil Gaiman

American Gods is becoming a bit of a hit since the release of the TV series on Amazon so I'd like to give this book a read before giving the series a go myself. The book itself is huge so I'm not sure how much of my summer it'll take over but I'm really looking forward to reading it! I love Neil Gaiman so I'm excited to give this one a go.

Carve The Mark by Veronica Roth 

The new book in a new series from the author who wrote and engaged me in the Divergent series a few years ago! I'm excited to be introduced to a new world unlike the world of Divergent and wonder whether it's as good too! This book was kindly gifted to me by the publishers Harper Collins recently!
