Beech Hill Hotel and Spa, Lake Windermere.

One of the places in the UK I have never visited is the Lake District (or maybe I did when I was younger and don't remember it). So imagine my delight when I was able to finally arrange a road trip up there, even if it did take 5 hours on a Friday afternoon to reach our destination. Our destination for the night was Beech Hill Hotel and Spa, a fantastic 4-star hotel that overlooks the eastern bank of Lake Windermere. From the hotel alone you have the Western Fells in perfect view.

One of the biggest appeals of this hotel wasn't just the location but the outdoor hot tub that offers a panoramic view of the Lake Windermere like no other. Who doesn't want to escape the office at the weekend in return for breathtaking views and great hospitality.

The location of the hotel was really accessible and wasn't as hard as I thought it may have been to find. The hotel really feels comfortable and spacious, it has a great area to dine, enjoy a drink but also to go outside on the terrace too. The hotel has really thought about the best elements for a pleasant stay and I really enjoyed that about my stay at Beech Hill Hotel.

STAYING AT THE BEECH HILL HOTEL
The hotel offers 57 different rooms, ranging from luxury suits to premier and family rooms. They have something available for everyone to enjoy though I would definitely ask about their disability access, although I do think they could provide this for you. Many of the rooms come with their unique view overlooking the lake. There was nothing like waking up and opening up the curtains to those views!

Our room was stunning, modern designed and extremely spacious room. All rooms at the hotel come with an en-suite bathroom with power shower and bath. There's also a flat screen TV, free Wi-Fi (only we found that our Wi-Fi only worked best in the communal spaces within the hotel), hairdryer, tea making facilities and room service available until 8.30pm.

The bed was so comfortable and I had a great night's sleep! There was no disturbance from other guests and I could enjoy my stay in peace and comfort.

LAKEVIEW SPA
The Lakeview Spa is located to the South of the hotel, in the ideal location to overlook the lake. The spa offers two spa treatment rooms, a Himalayan sauna, an aromatic steam room, and a 40 ft indoor pool. Outside is an outside vitality spa pool surrounded by sun loungers. The spa is incredibly intimate and private, giving you the perfect space and atmosphere for some well-needed rnr.

The jacuzzi is great and can fit up to 6 people comfortably. We took full advantage of these facilities in the morning of our stay, taking in all of the fresh air and giving our bodies a rest. We didn't find that the spa was too full that we couldn't enjoy what we wanted to in the spa, the guests were really respectful of one another and I really liked that. I enjoyed taking 10 minutes to enjoy the aromatic steam room, a swim in the 40ft indoor pool and then warming up in the jacuzzi outside. I could have sat and soaked up everything around me in the jacuzzi for hours.

DINING AT BURLINGTON'S RESTAURANT
The hotel's in-house restaurant has held AA rosettes for the last 20 years, building up quite the reputation for outstanding food and service. You could not fault the attentive and approachable manner of the staff who paid great attention to us throughout our dining experience. They were always on hand to offer us some recommendations and further information about their menu.

Whilst we enjoyed sipping on our drinks and watching the sunset beside us over the lake, we tried to decide on our 3-course dinner. The waiting staff quickly brought us over some appetizer-sized canapes to begin.

My starter was a delicious Asparagus, egg and hollandaise sauce with ham whilst Jordan opted for the Roasted Wood Pigeon Breast. His dish was served with mashed sweet potato, crispy pancetta-pickled golden sultanas. Both dishes were well presented and bagged lots of flavour!

The main course was comforting and full of flavour. I went for the Poach-roasted Chicken Supreme. I don't usually go for chicken dishes because I find that chicken is usually quite dry. I was not disappointed by what I was served at Burlington's Restaurant. The dish was served up with dauphinoise potatoes, wild mushrooms, white truffle and cauliflower cream. It was well served and the dauphinoise was well cooked, with a slight crisp to them. Jordan really enjoys Salmon so tried out their Roast Salmon Supreme dish. The salmon was cooked to perfection and finished off with new potatoes, petit pois, sweet gem lettuce and pancetta in a warm aioli sauce.

Of course, we made room for desserts and I'm so glad we did because they were delicious! I needed to fix my sweet tooth so I went for a Dark Chocolate Brownie and Jordan enjoyed dining on the Chilled Vanilla Egg Custard Creme Brulee.

I would most definitely revisit the hotel if it was just for the incredible food from Burlington's. In the morning they put on a breakfast feast fit for a king. If you were still feeling hungry after the meal the previous evening then you would definitely enjoy the range of breakfast foods the hotel has to offer you.

PLACES TO SEE AROUND THE HOTEL
In the morning we wanted to do some exploring so before leaving the hotel we managed to walk down towards the lake. Meeting us was a panoramic view like no other down the lake, if we had more time then we definitely would have taken advantage of the boat tours down the lake. Instead, we decided to vacate the hotel and drive 5 minutes up the road to Fell Foot.

Fell Foot is a National Trust park in the Lake District, Cumbria. It's a spot just 5 minutes away from the hotel and a fantastic place for active family holidays. So many people were taking advantage of the gorgeous weather by getting into the lake in small boats and canoes. There were hire services available if you wanted to take a boat trip yourself up and down the area. We decided to soak in the views and enjoy a cream tea before leaving for the 3-hour trip back home.
