20 Theatre Shows To See In March (2024)

Another month, another roundup of the shows you need to see and this time we’re heading into March. There are some fantastic tours across the UK this month including the long awaited opening of Come From Away and Hamilton begins its run in Edinburgh. As well as that there’s some great openings in London too including Opening Night - a brand new musical starring Sheridan Smith.

1. Little Shop of Horrors

1-23 March, New Wolsey Theatre

From the 1st March, a brand new production of Little Shop of Horrors begins its UK tour. Howard Ashman and Alan Menken’s musical kicks off its run at the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich. Experience the comedic horror musical that is known for its catchy tunes, campy humour and memorable characters.

2. The Crucible

The Arthur Miller classic returns to Sheffield in March, with Simon Mayonda as John Proctor and Oklahoma star Anoushka Lucas as Elizabeth Proctor. The Crucible is based on the events of the infamous Salem witch trials. 

3. Come From Away

From 1 March, UK Tour

The much loved Olivier and Tony award winning show is returning in their first UK tour. The tour kicks off at Curve Leicester before moving to Liverpool’s Empire Theatre from March 12. Discover the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers in one small town and leave the audience utterly moved. 

3. Macbeth

5-23 March, Leeds Playhouse

Amy Leach’s ‘triumphant’ (The Guardian) production makes a welcome return to the Quarry Theatre with Hamilton star Ash Hamilton playing the eponymous King. Macbeth is Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy about corruption and insatiable greed for power, which leads to death and destruction.

4. The Kite Runner

From 8 March, UK Tour

Heading back to the UK directly from Broadway is the stage adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s international bestselling novel. The Kite Runner tells the haunting tale of friendship, set in Afghanistan on the verge of war.

5. Johannes Radabe: House of Jojo

From 29 March, UK & Ireland tour 

After the success with last year’s Freedom: Unleashed tour, Strictly Come Dancing star Johannes Radabe and a host of electric characters will put on a theatrical celebration jam-packed with roof-raising music, dazzling costumes and first class dancing.

6. Wicked

5 March - 7 April, Birmingham Hippodrome

The award-winning musical, based on the acclaimed novel by Gregory Maguire is heading to Birmingham in March as part of its UK tour. Wicked takes us on the events which shaped the iconic characters, the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North. Set in Oz, is a beautiful production to behold!

7. Player Kings

From 1 March, Tour

Regarded as one of the world’s greatest actors, Ian McKellen takes on his next role in a new version of Shakespeare’s Henry IV. This new version adapted by the award-winning writer and director Robert Icke will perform at the New Wimbledon Theatre and Opera House in Manchester ahead of a West End run next month!

8. Red Pitch

From 15 March, Sohoplace

Tyrell William’s award-winning Red Pitch is transferring to London’s newest West End theatre this month. With 2 sold-out, award-winning runs at the Bush Theatre already in the net, Red Pitch tells a story about brotherhood, ambition, girls, community, and what it really means to belong.

9. Priscilla The Party!

From 3 March, HERE at Outernet

The original West End creative team reunite to bring one of the most joyous productions back to the stage in an all-new immersive production. Priscilla The Party! offers you the experience in an intimate environment with the show happening around the audience. Combine your favourite musical with the hottest party in town!

10. Opening Night

From 6 March, Gielgud Theatre

Sheridan Smith leads the new musical Opening Night at the Gielgud Theatre. Based on the 1977 film by John Cassavetes, this musical follows an ageing actress haunted by a deceased fan. Tension starts to unfold offstage due to the leading lady’s personal tragedy, the cast will deliver a performance of a lifetime.

You will want to be in the room where it happens as Hamilton arrives in Edinburgh as part of its first ever UK tour. The run will be well underway in March and you won’t want to miss Lin Manuel Miranda’s multi-award-winning cultural phenomenon. Not just a huge hit with UK audiences, but across the world too!

12. Police Cops: The Musical

Police Cops: The Musical returns bigger and better than ever with a run at the Southwark Playhouse Elephant in March. This production comes from the multi award-winning comedy company Police Cops and is set in 1980. A pair of mismatched police cops are on the case to bring down the baddest cat in America!

13. Instructions for a Teenage Armageddon

From 17 March, Garrick Theatre

Bridgerton’s Charithra Chandran makes her West End debut in Instructions for a Teenage Armageddon. This production is a rollercoaster ride through youth. If you love Taylor Swift, this show promises to be right up your street!

14. Coming Clean

From 21 March, Turbine Theatre

Kicking off Turbine Theatre’s 2024 spring season is Coming Clean. Packed with razor sharp wit, this is a drama that questions the nature of fidelity and the limits of love. Written by Kevin Elyot, this new production follows the success of My Night With Reg.

15. Mind Mangler: Member of the Tragic Circle

From 14 March, Apollo Theatre

Join the creators of The Play That Goes Wrong, Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer in their riotous new comedy Mind Mangler. This show follows the Mind Mangler as he attempts to make a spectacular return to the West End to debut his two man solo show.

16. Sister Act

From 15 March, Dominion Theatre

Based on the beloved film, Sister Act returns to London’s West End this month after delighting audiences on a UK tour with a star studded cast including Beverley Knight and Ruth Jones. The musical is a joyous and uplifting story that will put a smile on your face.

17. The Children

From 23 March, Nottingham Playhouse

Lucy Kirkwood delivers a new play that is both epic and intimate to Nottingham this month. Focusing on Hazel and Robin, two women who are living out their retirement in a cottage on the east coast. They live just outside the exclusion zone of a nuclear disaster. The Children is a funny thriller that will highlight how the time to act is slipping through our fingers.

18. Frank’s Closet

From 6 March, Union Theatre

Enjoy a high-camp, witty and poignant show in March when Frank’s Closet returns to the Union Theatre. The cult hit musical explores the conflict between fantasy and responsibility, liberty and conformity, with wit and heart.

19. MJ The Musical

A new musical based on one of the greatest entertainers of all time arrives in London in March following a multiple Tony Award-winning run on Broadway. MJ The Musical centres around the making of his 1992 Dangerous World Tour (and not forgetting the songs that made music history during his career!)

20. Made In Dagenham: 10th Anniversary Concert

Celebrating the 10th anniversary for one night at the London Palladium, Made in Dagenham is a powerhouse musical about friendship, love and the importance of fighting for what’s right. With not just a critically acclaimed score, this anniversary concert includes a stellar line up including Pixie Lott, Killian Donnelly and Bonnie Langford.
