70 minutes, 7 seasons, one Spike.

Brendan Murphy’s one-man show parody, Buffy Revamped, was a humorous reflection on the beloved TV series that exceeded all my expectations! Directed by Hamish MacDougall and written and performed by Murphy, he does a very impressive job of playing all of the beloved characters from the TV series. Buffy and her Scooby gang along with the big bada of each series burst onto the stage. His spoofs were hilarious, energetic and absolutely spot on and left the audience in lots of hysterical laughter. We have the central character of Spike talking us through all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 70 minutes and we get the wit and charm of the iconic character of Spike along with plenty of surprises!

The show was incredibly clever in its delivery, poking fun at the obvious plot holes and controversial aspects within the TV series. From pop culture references to writing his own songs dedicated to the trials and tribulations of the lead characters Buffy, Willow and Xander. Murphy displayed a remarkable talent at keeping the audience engaged and delivering material that wasn’t just funny but heartfelt too.

The audience interaction was a highlight, the ad-libs that came with it made it all the more enjoyable. The set design was also so nostalgic, with lots of hidden props and Easter eggs to keep the Buffy fans excited at all the references they could find (me included)! This was an essential part of the performance serving as a constant reminder of why this series was so iconic and memorable.

Not only having a successful stint at The Edinburgh Fringe festival in 2022 but being the Winner of the Best One Person Show and Best Comedy Performance at the DarkChat Awards 2022. Buffy Revamped is currently on its UK tour until June 1st, this is not to be missed by anyone that has loved or still loves Buffy the Vampire Slayer, this truly was a fangtastic show!
