The Musical Theatre Tag!

I've grown up being surrounded by Musical Theatre, through dance school and undertaking a Musical Theatre course at college just over 4 years ago and still dream of the day I end up on West End (not lost hope yet!). I can't believe how many musicals exist, so many incredible songs and storylines available for your eyes and ears to be introduced to! I think this tag is just perfect for me and gives me the opportunity to listen to my Musical playlist on Spotify (which happens often!) so here we go with the Musical Theatre Tag*jazz hands*

1. What was the first musical you ever saw?

I am pretty sure it was Annie for a local amateur group but otherwise, Kiss Me Kate was the first ever musical I saw professionally in the West End.  The first one I watched through film was The King and I and The Sound of Music with my grandparents which they kept on VHS (remember those) and they were often pulled out to watch when I visited.

2. What was your favourite musical growing up?

It was definitely Annie, I used to sing Tomorrow and Maybe CONSTANTLY and would perform it in my own room along with many others over the years. I was pretty sure I was Annie. I still have a strange attachment to The Sound Of Music and all its glory in the music, who didn't want to be one of the Von Trapp children?

3. Were you ever in a musical?

I did Grease at college in my second year, I was part of the chorus my dance skills were always far better than my singing (oops!). I also did High School Musical with a performing company, I really loved High School Musical.

4. What was the first musical you saw on the West End?

I saw Kiss Me Kate with my dance friends many years ago and not long after I saw The Lion King for a school trip. If you haven't watched that you really must!

5. If you could be any female character in any musical who would you be and why?

I have a few that I would actually love to play, give me Elle from Legally Blonde, Elphaba from Wicked, Maria from West Side Story OR Eponine from Les Miserables anyday, thanks.

6. Which male character?

Billy Elliot for the dancing, O B V I O U S L Y.

7. What is your favourite musical song to sing in the shower?

I have a big Spotify playlist so just play that and I will sing along!

8. Who is your favourite theatre actress?

Idina Menzel

9. Actor?

I couldn't think of but I absolutely love Wilson Jermaine Heredia who played the original Angel in RENT. It was such a captivating role that made me weep!

10. Favourite film adaptation of a musical?

Film adaptations are really interesting because they often present musicals we may not necessarily get the opportunity to see otherwise. One of these is RENT, it's literally one of my favourites seeing an amateur production isn't always the same level and I'd prefer it on the West End properly.

11. What do you think is most underrated musical?

RENT (honestly I am obsessed with this musical). If you haven't watched or listened to the musical soundtrack then do it's wonderful and so strong! I just think it has the greatest storyline, characters and soundtracks. I'll pop down the film trailer for you to have a look...

12. Overrated musical?

I'm sorry to say but for me it's Les Miserables. I saw it a few years ago after absolutely loving the film adaptation. It probably didn't help where about we were sitting but I just couldn't enjoy the performance and felt it was too long. I need to see it again to be honest. I am not also the biggest fan of Mamma Mia

13. What musical made you cry?

Which musical hasn't made me sob somehow? I got very emotional both times I watched Wicked and 'For Good' played. It has a personal touch to me so I think that's definitely one moment that just makes me feel teary. I cried the first time I listened to 'The Last Five Years' soundtrack too.

14. What musical made you laugh?

I really enjoyed We Will Rock You when I first saw it, it was something I didn't expect to enjoy and have seen twice (must have been good?!)

15. Are there any musicals you saw and hated?

Probably the experience I told you about Les Mis but I am willing to give it another go at being decent ;)

16. What musical do you want to see as a film?

I am pretty excited about the rumours of Wicked the Musical after loving it for so blooming long, eeeekkk!

17. Which musicals are you dying to see?

Cats, Bend It Like Beckham (I loved the film so I am curious), Elf, Jersey Boys, Let It Be, Matilda, Miss Saigon,Hairspray.. I could go on..

18. Any movie or book you think should be turned into a musical?

Pirates of the Caribbean the Musical would be amazing, pleaseeee somebody do it. I am not sure how I feel about anything else.

19. What is your all-time favourite musical?

I could never tire of  RENT, Wicked, GreaseThe Sound Of Music (always wanted to spin on a hill singing the hills are alive..) and The King and I. I just love their music soooo much and could watch them over and over.
