Can you tell us a little more about Bronco Billy?
Good morals win the day, good people with kindred spirits finding each other and saving each other. Bad morals getting caught out. Plus cowboys, disco music and slapstick comedy and you have Bronco Billy.
What drew you to the role of Constance Lily? Can you tell us about the character?
Another wicked and comedic character to get my teeth into. I never stop having fun being naught in storytelling.
This production marks the UK premiere of the musical. Have many changes been made from the original 2019 LA production?
From what I hear many changes have been made but didn’t witness to be able to tell.
The promise of disco dancing Wild West roustabouts is something different for London audiences. What can audiences expect from the show?
This is a high camp, full of laughs, disco dancing, comedy for two and a half hours. It’s for all the family with no age restrictions.
Is the process of originating a role different from taking over an already established role?
Yes, very much. You have ownership of how it gets set in the future as it’s lead by first explain. It’s a fortunate position to be in.
Emily Benjamin makes the jump from alternate to leading lady as Antoinette. Do you find it exciting to watch fellow actors thrive and shine in new shows?
100% EmBen is why I took the show, as I was so impressed with her West End Live performance of Sally Bowels.
You have had an extensive theatre career, starring in so many amazing shows. Are there any roles that you would love to play in the future?
I used to but not anymore. I’m forever changing and growing, so my priorities and ideas are constantly changes. I go where people are excited about me.
Have you any advice for aspiring performers on how to navigate trying to find their place in the industry?
Believe in your cause, don’t look desperate even if you are and whatever you do find your own way of reading and doing a scene or a song. Surprise them with something different.
If you had to use three words to describe Bronco Billy to entice audiences which ones would you use?
Muppets, Disco, Cowboy.
