The 20 Shows To See In February (2024)

Another month, another roundup of the shows you need to see in February. It's only the second month into 2024 and a jam-packed one with some great openings happening across the country, not just in London. From the West End transfer of Hadestown finally opening to the Bonnie & Clyde UK Tour beginning, February will be a stellar month of theatre. It’s also the month of love and we’ll be rounding up what you can see with your loved one (or gal pals) too!

1. This Might Not Be It

03 Feb - 02 March, Bush Theatre

This Might Not Be It is a candid and unflinchingly human look at the NHS mental health services. Written by Sophia Chetin - Leuner, this play confronts the hard truths of what is happening.

2. Shifters

16 Feb - 30 March, Bush Theatre

The second of a great programme in February at the Bush Theatre, Shifters is a fierce new romance for anyone who wants to experience a different kind of love story.

3. The Handmaid’s Tale

1-15 February, London Coliseum

ENO’s bold and captivating take on Margaret Atwood’s opera adaptation, The Handmaid’s Tale is back on the London Coliseum stage for a strictly limited season in February.

4. Songs For A New World

6 Feb - 3 March, Upstairs At The Gatehouse

A new Off-West End revival of Jason Robert Brown’s Songs For A New World will perform in this London venue for a limited run from 6 February. The show is an anthology of short stories told through song that explores the human condition from a vast array of New World perspectives.

5. The Boy At The Back Of The Class

Based on the novel by Onjali Q. Rauf, The Boy At The Back Of The Class highlights the power of friendship and kindness in a world that doesn’t always make sense. Adapted by Monique Touko, this promises to be a brilliant stage adaptation of a bestselling children’s novel.

6. Cable Street

16 Feb - 16 March, Southwark Playhouse Borough

A new musical that tells the story of the people of London’s East End in 1936 heads into the Southwark Playhouse Borough in February. This production is already proving very popular so definitely get your tickets quick!

7. Hadestown

From 10 Feb, Lyric Theatre

The long-awaited West End premiere of Hadestown kicks off in February and we cannot wait to be taken on an unforgettable journey to the underworld and back! Experience two mythic love stories intertwine with an unforgettable soundtrack from singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell.

8. Self-Raising

UK Tour Begins 6 Feb.

Following its success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last summer, Self Raising is a one-woman show about growing up deaf in a family with secrets, by award winning Artistic Director or Graeae, Jenny Sealey.

9. The Big Life: The Ska Musical

16 Feb - 30 March, Stratford East

Shakespeare’s Love Labour’s Lost meets that of the Windrush generation in the fun-packed Ska musical, The Big Life. The production returns to the stage in February 20 years after its Stratford East premiere and subsequent West End transfer.

10. My Beautiful Laundrette

17 - 24 Feb, Curve Leicester

My Beautiful Laundrette is back on the Leicester stage for the first time in five years in February. Based on Hanif Kureishi’s iconic and Oscar-nominated screenplay, this play is set against a backdrop of nationalism, racial tensions, financial crisis and political turmoil.

11. Edward Scissorhands

Regional audiences in Milton Keynes, Birmingham, Woking, Liverpool and Nottingham will be able to experience Matthew Bourne’s captivating production of Edward Scissorhands in February as part of the show’s UK Tour.

12. Enemy of the People

6 Feb - 6 April, Duke of York’s Theatre

Thomas Ostermeier’s bold reimagining of the classic play by Henrik Ibsen is on its way. Starring Matt Smith, this thought-provoking play focuses on truth in a society driven by power and money.

13. Bonnie & Clyde

UK Tour kicks off 22 February.

The West End smash-hit Bonnie & Clyde begins its tour across the country after two hell-raising seasons in London. The tour kicks off on 22 February in Leicester and is an electrifying story of love, adventure and crime.

14. Standing At The Sky’s Edge

From 8 February, Gillian Lynne Theatre

The multi-award winning new musical will begin its West End transfer following sold-out runs at both the National Theatre and Sheffield Theatres. Experience the musical that charts the hopes and dreams of three generations over the course of six tumultuous decades.

15. Before After

After its record-breaking livestream in 2020, The Grey Area will present a fully staged UK premiere of Before After for the first time. The musical love story about a couple who are given a second shot at happiness will star Grace Mouat and Jacob Fowler.

16. The Gap

9 Feb - 9 March, Hope Mill Theatre

Starring Matthew Kelly and Denise Welch, The Gap is a brand-new comedy that tells the audacious adventures of Walter and Corral. A timeless tale of love, loss and survival heads into the Manchester venue for a limited run.

17. Starter for Ten

29 Feb - 30 Mar, Bristol Old Vic

A brand new musical based on David Nicholls’ novel and the HBO/Playtone Film kicks off its first preview at the tail end of the month. Starter For Ten will feature an original soundtrack inspired by the riotous student scene of the 80s’ and is a coming-of-age comedy about love, belonging and the all-important difference between knowledge and wisdom.

18. Bhangra Nation: A New Musical

17 Feb - 16 Mar, Birmingham Rep

Drawing from competitive Bhangra and mixing it with Indian and Western dance forms, Bhangra Nation - A New Musical will begin its run at the Birmingham Rep from 17 Feb. This new musical promises to be a brash, intoxicating and joyous musical comedy!

19. For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Hue Gets Too Heavy

29 Feb - 4 May, Garrick Theatre

Returning to London’s West End following on from three previously sold-out runs, Ryan Calais Cameron’s play brings six young Black men together for group therapy. A mixture of music, movement, storytelling and verse - For Black Boys.. is going to be very popular!

20. Leicester Comedy Festival

07 - 25 February, throughout Leicester.

One of the biggest and longest running comedy festivals in the UK is back in Leicester this February with a month JAM-PACKED with stuff to see! Over 700 shows are packed into the festival’s programme so there’s plenty on offer!
