Edinburgh Fringe Chats (#35): Corps in Situ, GO!
Conducted by Emmie for Theatre and Tonic
As anticipation builds for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025, we’re catching up with a range of exciting creatives preparing to bring their work to the world’s largest arts festival this August. In this series, we delve into the stories behind the shows, the inspiration driving the artists, and what audiences can expect.
Today, we’re joined by Corps in Situ to chat about GO!
1. Can you begin by telling us about your show and what inspired it?
The first idea was to create a meeting with two people in a dance studio, through a research project, without any ambition to make a piece. But this initial meeting didn’t happen for schedule and planning reasons. Another female dancer, practicing karate, joined the project but got pregnant at the beginning of the research project . So, a third dancer arrived in the project: Youri De Gusssem. And, from the meeting between Ville and Youri, it became clear that we should make a children's piece from this research work!
2. What made you want to bring this work to the Fringe this year?
I met James, the director of Zoo Venue in Edinburgh, in 2023. He came to Luxembourg for the first edition of the performing art showcase of Luxembourg and we were performing GO!. We met and chatted after the show, and he offered us the opportunity to perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
3. How would you describe your show in three words?
Precise, playful, powerful.
4. What do you hope audiences take away from watching your performance?
Fun, and a nice moment spent with two amazing dancers. I also hope to plant a seed in the imaginations of the children, families, and audience members about dance, martial arts, and its important philosophies of respect and humbleness.
5. What’s your top tip for surviving the Fringe?
This will be my first Fringe participation as a company. Let’s see if I will survive it ;-) !
6. Where and when can people see your show?
From 12 - 24 August (not on 18th) at 10:00am, Zoo Venue Southside.
