Debut of new musical celebrating Houdini, The Impossible Man, to preview at Lake Como

A new musical which celebrates the most famous illusionist and showman of all time has been announced.

Broadway star and multiple Drama Desk nominee Ryan Silverman will star in The Impossible Man, featuring more than 20 stage illusions, some that have never been presented before. Previewing early next year in Italy’s Lake Como, the official world premiere is set to be announced later in the year.

Silverman will originate the role of Harry Houdini. He has appeared in movies and TV, including Suits and The Phantom of the Opera. The preview performances will take place at the prestigious Sociale Theatre in Como, following a workshop in Italy.

The Impossible Man is based on the true story of Houdini, a lot of the storytelling takes inspiration from modern TV shows, bouncing the narrative between the present and various episodes from his past. The musical also features music influenced by the magician’s Hungarian origins and is composed by Giovanni Maria Lori.

The illusions include a new appearance of an elephant on stage and a brand new take on the classic Chinese Water Torture Cell. Paolo Carta (Mary Poppins, Ghost, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory in Europe) is in charge of the show’s magic with choreography by Gillian Bruce (latest Phantom).

The cast will be announced shortly.
