ED FRINGE 2023 REVIEW | DIVAS: From Stage to Screen

Following on from its five star run at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe, Divas: From Stage to Screen is back and better than ever. This cabaret-style production features the talents of five incredible performers- Halla Eaglesham, Rachel Flynn, Sarah Innes, Dannielle Logan and Jessica Nolan. Through a diverse set list spanning numerous decades and iconic performers, the show takes us on a journey through some of the greatest songs ever written.

Each performer is several opportunities to shine, showing off their powerful vocal prowess and making it look completely effortless. My personal highlights were the iconic Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland duet “Happy Days Are Here Again/ Get Happy” by Sarah Innes and Jessica Nolan; Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You” performed by Halla Eaglesham; Grease’s “Hopelessly Devoted To You” by Rachel Flynn and Frozen’s “Into the Unknown” by Dannielle Logan.

Although it was delightful to see each performer shine in their own way, some of the strongest parts of the show were the group numbers, with harmonies so flawless anybody would think that this team had been working together for years. The joyous and upbeat ‘Does Your Mother Know’ and the medley of ‘Raise Your Glass’ and ‘Domino’ were shining examples of this.

One tiny, personal opinion is that it felt as though some of the songs being performed had some kind of personal significance to the performer singing it- it could potentially be interesting if our divas themselves had opportunities throughout the show to share some of their own life anecdotes and what the music means to them.

Divas: From Stage to Screen runs until August 27th with the cast rotating throughout the run- whoever you see, you’re guaranteed a night of class, flair and impeccable vocals.

Ticket information for DIVAS: From Stage to Screen can be found on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe website.
