The 20 Theatre Shows To See in June (2024)

As summer approaches, theatre lovers can look forward to an exciting array of performances that promise to captivate, entertain, and inspire. There are some fantastic shows opening in June, including the opening of Mean Girls and revivals like Kiss Me, Kate and Starlight Express. However don’t forget we also give you an insight into some great performances across the UK too! Here’s the 20 shows you need to see in the month of June. 

1. Marie Curie

1 June - 28 July, Charing Cross Theatre

Captivating audiences in Korea and Japan, Marie Curie is a brand new musical getting its UK premiere in June. Follow the story of Marie Skłodowska-Curie - the physicist, pioneer and parent. We follow Marie as she discovers radium, a new chemical element that has the potential to cure cancer.

2. Diva: Live From Hell

4-9 June, King’s Head Theatre

Following a critically acclaimed, sell out run at the Turbine Theatre, Luke Bayer reprises his role in the devilish hit musical, Diva: Live From Hell which plays in London ahead of a run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer. This solo musical focuses on rivalry, vengeance, and killer ambition - inspired by All About Eve.


3. Kiss Me, Kate

4 June - 14 Sept, Barbican Theatre

Be swept away by the glamourous world of Broadway’s golden age in the heart of London this summer as the Kiss Me, Kate revival opens in June. This show features a stellar cast including Broadway legend Stephanie Block alongside Line of Duty’s Adrian Dunbar and much-loved West End stars Charlie Stemp and Georgina Onuorah.


4. Mean Girls

From 7 June, Savoy Theatre

The West End transfer of the hit musical Mean Girls finally opens in June. Filled with catchy songs and a fantastic cast, this show covers timeless themes of friendship, self-discovery, and the impact of social dynamics that will resonate with audiences.


5. Starlight Express

From 8 June, Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre

Returning to the London stage for the first time in 40 years, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express will whizz into the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre in June. Audiences can expect a thrilling experience with the spectacle of roller-skating performers with one of the greatest musicals. 


6. Julie: The Musical

12 - 30 June, The Other Palace

A brand new original musical JULIE, tells the life and adventures of historical LGBTQ+ icon Julie D’Aubigny. She was one of the first public figures to live as an openly bisexual woman and this show celebrates both life and queerness.


7. Burlesque The Musical

13-29 June, Manchester Opera House

Talking of more new musicals taking to the stage in June, Burlesque The Musical opens in Manchester this month. What promises to be a gritty and outrageously fun new musical based on the much-loved hit movie, this is a story of self-discovery that features songs by Christina Aguilera, Sia and Diane Warren, alongside additional songs by Todrick Hall and Jess Folley.


8. The Secret Garden

15 Jun - 20 Jul, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre

Frances Hodgson Burnett’s beloved and radical story about the magic of nature and the nature of magic heads to the idyllic setting of Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. Adapted in a new version by Holly Robinson and Anna Himali-Howard, The Secret Garden will be a dreamy show to see this summer.


9. Next To Normal

18 June - 21 Sept, Wyndham’s Theatre

Explore an intimate exploration of family and loss with the West End transfer of Next to Normal following its sold out run at the Donmar Warehouse. Next to Normal follows Diana Goodman, a suburban wife and mother living with bipolar disorder and haunted by her past. This is a powerful rock musical you won’t want to miss!


10. Lea Salonga (Tour)

across the UK this June.

If you’re looking for a musical-inspired concert this month then you won’t want to miss multiple Broadway musical and international singing sensation Lea Salonga. Her new tour Stage, Screen & Everything in Between will enable fans to experience stage and screen classics from Lea’s best known roles. The tour includes a launch at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane where she returns for the first time since she performed in Miss Saigon in 1989.

11. House of Life

18 Jun - 6 Jul, Soho Theatre

After a sell out 2023 Edinburgh Fringe Festival run, House of Life is a travelling musical cult collective by RaveRend with the mission to make the audience happy at any cost. Made up of alumni of the BAFTA-winning Television Workshop, Sheep Soup are back following five-star smash hits Mrs Green and The Invention Of Acting.

12. RENT

20-29 Jun, New Theatre Peterborough

The classic Jonathan Larson Musical returns to wow audiences in a production at the New Theatre Peterborough this month. The musical is of course based on Pucinni's La Boheme and features smash hit songs such as Take Me or Leave Me, and One Song Glory. RENT is an inspiring story that reminds us of the importance of following our passions and taking risks to pursue our dreams.

13. Singin' in the Rain

18 June - 28 July, Kilworth House Theatre

Adapted from the 1953 movie classic, with classic songs such as Good Morning, the team behind 2023's Hairspray brings this perineal musical returns to the beautiful Kilworth House and their open air venue this summer. Singin’ In The Rain is a show packed full of charm, romance, comedy and tinsel town glamour.



14. A View From the Bridge

until 3 Aug, Theatre Royal Haymarket

The Crown's Dominic West leads the cast in the latest London revival of the Arthur Miller masterpiece. A View From The Bridge is a timeless masterpiece of illicit and barely repressed sexual passion. The play also starring Cabaret alum Callum Scott Howells, and Kate Fleetwood played a sell out run at Theatre Royal, Bath earlier this year. 

15. Boys from the Blackstuff 

13 June - 3 August, Garrick Theatre

"Gizza job, go on" 

Following a sell out run at Liverpool Royal Court Theatre and The National Theatre, James Graham's adaptation of the Alan Bleasdale iconic 1980s TV series transfers to the Garrick Theatre for a limited run. The story of 4 friends trying to provide for their family through the turbulent 1980s will undoubtedly resonate for today's audience.

16. Kathy and Stella Solve a Murder

until 14 September, Ambassadors Theatre

The critically acclaimed show hits the West End after sell out runs in Manchester, Bristol and Edinburgh. When the hosts of a Hull based true crime podcast are thrust into their very own whodunnit, they find themselves part of the story. We dare the audience to not fall in love with Kathy and Stella and their adventures.


17. My Fair Lady

until 29 Jun, Leeds Playhouse

Wouldn’t it be loverly to spend the Summer with Eliza Dolittle in this new revival of the Lerner and Loewe classic. With the success of recent shows such as Oliver! and A Little Night Music, it is safe to say that audiences are in for a well needed dose of nostalgia this Summer.



18. Aladdin

until 7 July, Manchester Palace Theatre

Continuing on its first UK tour, Aladdin lands his magic carpet in Manchester. Already seen by over 14 million people worldwide, what a perfect way to get ready for the Summer holidays, then to see a Whole New World.



19. The Caretaker

8 Jun - 13 Jul, Chichester Festival Theatre

Star Wars star Ian McDiarmid leads the cast in this revival of the seminal Harold Pinter play. This dark comedy follows three men as they vie for territory, opportunity and control set at the tail end of the 1950s. A dramatic masterclass and given CFT's pedigree, this production will be a must see for the Summer.



20. Babies: A New Musical

1 June - 14 July, The Other Palace

Following a sell out concert run last year, this new musical mixes the nostalgia of being in Year 11 with an amazing pop rock score. Babies follows nine classmates as they take on their most important school project yet: keeping a fake baby alive for an entire week. With such a buzz for new musicals right now, this has the potential to be the hottest show of the Summer.
