The Shocking Truth About Flat Earth Musical [Ed-Fringe Preview]

With Edinburgh Fringe around the corner, I had the pleasure to catch a new musical preview in the Midlands before it reaches the Scottish capital, The Shocking Truth about Flat Earth.

Meet Sharon Hargrove, a "middle-aged" woman with many questions, which not everyone is willing to answer. After 3 am scrollings and after tumbling down many online rabbit holes, she ends up at a Flat Earth convention in Vegas where she somehow accidentally becomes the star attraction, which leads her on a journey of self-discovery alongside her best friend Debs and a few other oddball characters.

Written by Adam Tuffrey and Alexander Moneypenny and directed by Karl Steele, this 65-minute straight-through show mixes comedy moments, catchy songs and a few self-deprecating jokes at the show's expense surrounding the fringe theatre aspect of it all.

The five-strong cast are led expertly by Emma Norman as Sharon alongside the rest of the quintet of Emma Thornett, Michael Joseph, Tom Dickerson and Leonie Wall, who wear their various hats, wigs and quick-change costumes with style, bringing life to a plethora of people from fellow Flat Earthers to Round Earth believers as well.

It was an enjoyable afternoon at the theatre, from the Midlands with love to the Edinburgh Fringe, where it will be taking residence at the Pleasance Queen Dome between the 5th and 30th August 2026.
