Hands Up!, LS6 Theatre Company Review

Written by Kerry McLaughlin for Theatre & Tonic

From what seems like a modern-day “Carry On” style play, Hands Up! revolves around two flatmates who are being robbed. But the robbers don’t know what they’re meant to steal. A shorter piece, coming in at 45 minutes, the dictionary description of “keeping cool in a bad situation”, the comedic timings were on point throughout, particularly Ludo Gibson’s Charlie, who plays into the innocence of his character with ease.

There are a few storylines that personally I would have liked to be explored more, but with fringe time restraints can understand why subplots were limited. The show seemed to focus more on the here and now, compared to exploring the relationships through the characters, besides a few moments here and there. And whilst the ending was predictable, it didn’t remove any charm, was enjoyable, and I didn’t mind the cliché of it all.
