Edinburgh Fringe Chats (#122): Lubna Kerr, LUNCHBOX

As anticipation builds for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025, we’re catching up with a range of exciting creatives preparing to bring their work to the world’s largest arts festival this August. In this series, we delve into the stories behind the shows, the inspiration driving the artists, and what audiences can expect. Today, we’re joined by Lubna Kerr to find out more about her show, Lunchbox.

1. Can you begin by telling us about your show and what inspired it?

Lunchbox is about two teenagers, Steven and Lubna, managing their trajectory through high school life. Steven is the local bully who everyone is scared of. It compares their home lives and discusses nature vs nurture and choices versus expectations.

Lunchbox is a one-woman show with 8 characters. It is inspired by my own life experiences of being bullied and trying to fit into high school life.

2. What made you want to bring this work to the Fringe this year?

Bullying in school is such a hot topic this year, though I applied to write about it last year. So I was ahead of the curve!

It’s the final part of my trilogy of plays all with a box theme.

3. How would you describe your show in three words?

Forgiveness, hope and culture

4. What do you hope audiences take away from watching your performance?

Who can they be kind to, who can they help with a smile, who can they forgive and move on.

5. What’s your top tip for surviving the Fringe?

Drink lots of water, eat healthy, pace yourself, and rest.

6. Where and when can people see your show?

Pleasance Courtyard, The Green at 16:45
