Edinburgh Fringe Chats (#134): TS Crew, NO MILK NO SUGAR (PROTOTYPING)

As anticipation builds for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025, we’re catching up with a range of exciting creatives preparing to bring their work to the world’s largest arts festival this August. In this series, we delve into the stories behind the shows, the inspiration driving the artists, and what audiences can expect. Today, we’re joined by TS Crew to find out more about No Milk No Sugar (Prototyping).

1. Can you begin by telling us about your show and what inspired it?

In the beginning, we wanted to create a show which is about the "home" of the Hong Kong community, I mean the Global-Hong Kong community here. It's more like the prototype of us. And during the brainstorming process, what really caught our attention was the food at the Hong Kong style diner (cha chaan teng), such as "pineapple bun", "Hong Kong style tea with milk" and especially the Hong Kong style coffee with no sugar and milk. It is a signature that you cannot find anywhere else. I can't say it is the best coffee, not even good, but it is really special and you can taste your home in the coffee. So we created this piece "No Sugar No Milk (Prototyping)".

2. What made you want to bring this work to the Fringe this year?

Fringe is a place that is highly competitive. YES. It is totally correct. At the same time, Fringe is a place of sharing and a place where we can find mutual understanding, support and also, art and cultural exchange through laughs, applause and tears. And of course through beer and party too. And that's why we make our show debut in this year's Fringe

3. How would you describe your show in three words?

Surprise, Laugh, Bon Appétit

4. What do you hope audiences take away from watching your performance?

A taste of Hong Kong with some laughs and tears

5. What’s your top tip for surviving the Fringe?

Don't do anything that you don't believe. It's like if you don't believe in comedy, never do it just because comedy might easier to grab more audience in the Fringe

6. Where and when can people see your show?

8-17 Aug | 12:15 | 17 Assembly George Square Studios - Studio TWO
