Edinburgh Fringe Chats (#102): Chiedza Rwodzi, STRANGERS AND REVELATIONS

As anticipation builds for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025, we’re catching up with a range of exciting creatives preparing to bring their work to the world’s largest arts festival this August. In this series, we delve into the stories behind the shows, the inspiration driving the artists, and what audiences can expect.  Today, we’re joined by Chiedza Rwodzi to find out more about Strangers and Revelations.

1. Can you begin by telling us about your show and what inspired it?
My show is called Strangers and Revelations. I’ve always had a keen interest in exploring spirituality, love and mythology as well as the idea of home and what these terms might mean to myself and others. As a Zimbabwean who has lived in the UK for over a decade, I believe I have a unique lens in which I see the world and understand it. I thought what better way to explore such themes within the characters I’ve written about in this piece.

2. What made you want to bring this work to the Fringe this year?

There’s no better time than the present. Last year our theatre company “Unshaded Arts” (which I co-founded together with Hassan Govia) thought about it but the timing didn’t feel right. The fringe requires a lot of planning and preparation, so we thought to do it this year and it feels right!

3. How would you describe your show in three words?

Igniting, unexpected & alluring

4. What do you hope audiences take away from watching your performance?

My hope is that the audience take away a bit of history whilst also ultimately given a lot to reflect on about their life and the world we live in today.

5. What’s your top tip for surviving the Fringe?

Make sure you plan on what you want to see in advance! There are thousands of shows so you might get decision fatigue if you don’t go with some sort of plan. Get your show booklet weeks before .

6. Where and when can people see your show?

TheSpaceUK, Surgeons’ Hall (Theatre 3) at 12 midday, 1st-23rd August (not 10th or 17th).
