Summer Fling by Student Theatre at Glasgow
Written by Liam Lambie for Theatre & Tonic
Summer Fling by Student Theatre at Glasgow is a light-hearted and humorous look at dating shows and the society we exist in. The production has a witty script that kept the audience consistently amused — though it occasionally tripped over its own pacing.
The standout of the evening was George Roger as Aaron, delivering a performance that was both strong and hilarious. His comedic timing and physicality brought an infectious energy to the stage, and he consistently stole scenes with ease and charisma.
The rest of the cast — Savannah Meriweather (Donna), Lola Gibbens (Maisie), and Erin Bruff (Ollie) — brought warmth and enthusiasm to their roles, complementing the play’s humorous tone, though at times some moments could have benefited from tighter direction.
One notable drawback was the frequent blackouts between scenes, which disrupted the momentum. While the script was lively, the reliance on blackouts slowed things down and broke the flow. A more inventive or seamless approach to transitions could have elevated the experience and given the play the dynamic pace it deserves.
Overall, Summer Fling is a clever concept with clear potential. With further development and more polished direction, it could blossom into something truly special.
Summer Fling plays at Lower Theatre atSpace @ Niddry Street until 9 August
