British South Asian Pantomime ‘Surinderella’ to be staged at Stratford East this Autumn

Surienderella Stratford East.

Rifco Theatre Company will present a British South Asian family pantomime at the Stratford East Theatre this October. Surienderella, an Indian retelling of Cinderella, has been written by Pravesh Kumar MBE with music and lyrics by PBN.

Welcome to Bolly Woods, where the naach is non-stop, the drama is bigger than your aunties’, and the romance is straight out of a filmy blockbuster!

Meet Surinder – sweet, strong, and stuck in a never-ending chore list thanks to her two selfie-obsessed, Insta-vlogging stepsisters, Lovely & Bubbly. Her only real support? The one and only Basanti, a cow with more attitude than a desi girl.

Meanwhile, Prince Kavi is drowning in shaadi pressure from his royal family. But when he accidentally bumps into Surinder, sparks fly faster than a Bollywood dance sequence!

Enter the fabulous Devi Godmother, arriving in full-on glam mode with magic, makeovers, and masala moves. With a dazzling Bollywood Ball, a mystical slipper, and a lot of bakwas, Surinder’s destiny is about to get a serious glow-up!

Further information, including the cast and creatives are to be announced.

Surinderella follows a dynamic South Asian Summer of work planned at Stratford East this July. Highlights include Kanpur: 1857 by Niall Moorjani; Olivier Award-nominated play Blue Mist by Mohamed-Zain Dada; London legend Brown Sauce Comedy Club; live vocal and dance celebration Say Shava Shava; Qawwali Live: with Hussain Brothers; and British Asian cabaret Heeramandi.
