Edinburgh Fringe Chats (#87): Wayne Stewart, CHROME YELLOW
As anticipation builds for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025, we’re catching up with a range of exciting creatives preparing to bring their work to the world’s largest arts festival this August. In this series, we delve into the stories behind the shows, the inspiration driving the artists, and what audiences can expect. Today, we’re joined by Wayne Stewart to chat about his show, Chrome Yellow.
1. Can you begin by telling us about your show and what inspired it?
Chrome Yellow is a true story (my story) about walking 650 miles across France in search of… something. It started as a travel journal but slowly became an accidental deep dive into meaning, grief, hope, and why we sometimes need to get lost to find ourselves.
2. What made you want to bring this work to the Fringe this year?
It feels like the right moment. The show’s personal but resonates with a lot of people. The Fringe offers that rare chance to share it with completely new audiences and see how it lands outside of Jersey. It’s terrifying and exciting in equal measure.
3. How would you describe your show in three words?
Honest. Funny. Human.
4. What do you hope audiences take away from watching your performance?
That it’s okay not to have it all figured out. That there’s humour even in the messiest parts of life. And that maybe, just maybe, we’re all a little more connected in our uncertainty than we think.
5. What’s your top tip for surviving the Fringe?
Pace yourself. Sleep more than you think you need. Eat properly. And remember: you don’t have to see or do everything. Sometimes a quiet walk is just as valuable as another late-night show.
6. Where and when can people see your show?
Chrome Yellow runs from 1-24 August (not 12th or 19th) at ZOO Southside (Studio) at 12:25pm daily. Bring curiosity, and maybe an appetite for peaches.
