Edinburgh Fringe Chats (#84): Ambrosine Davies, LA BABY

As anticipation builds for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025, we’re catching up with a range of exciting creatives preparing to bring their work to the world’s largest arts festival this August. In this series, we delve into the stories behind the shows, the inspiration driving the artists, and what audiences can expect.  Today, we’re joined by award-wining actor and comedian Ambrosine Davies to chat about their show, LA Baby.

Can you begin by telling us about your show and what inspired it?

LA Baby is about my last nine years in LA as a comedian trying to break into the industry and all the jobbing gigs that supported me throughout that time. It’s also about finding myself in an abusive relationship and all the craziness that encompassed all of those things and threads. The stories found themselves intertwining into one and it became so insane that I just felt like it needed to be a show.

What made you want to bring this work to the Fringe this year?

I want to bring my story back to the Fringe this year - it's a completely revised, rewritten piece of work and I wanted to take a year out to step back from it, and completely rewrite the whole thing to create a full show that's a really good story and that's what I hope comes across this year.

How would you describe your show in three words?

Unpredictable, shocking, witty

What do you hope audiences take away from watching your performance?

I hope audiences come away having felt like they've actually been in LA for a year. I hope that they feel like they're there with me and I've taken them on a journey through that whole experience of the good and the bad. Hopefully they leave having a really insightful view of that but also understanding the cultural differences, the gun crime, the abuse I faced and more. I want to show the nice things about California, as well as the darker stuff.

What’s your top tip for surviving the Fringe?

Definitely pace yourself and know when to take breaks. Have some alone time - it's really important when you're constantly in a really fast-paced environment, you just need to sometimes go off for a walk, be by yourself, have a coffee, find yourself in nature.

Where and when can people see your show?

LA Baby by Ambrosine Davies is on from 1-24 August (not 12, 19) at Zoo Playground (Playground 2), 15:35 (60 minutes).
