Wanted by Eleanor Higgins Review

Written by Lauren Budd for Theatre and Tonic

WANTED tells the story of two broke friends trying to ‘just break even.’ Writer and actress Eleanor Higgins (behind the Fringe sensation PurSUEt) takes us through, down on her luck Erica’s series of unfortunate decision making that leads her to a place she can’t come back from. Naomi Denny does a wonderful job as the lead support character, Jessie. Starting off as a partner in crime and succeeding in developing as a layered, complex character in the story, who ends up acting as a stream of consciousness and holds the mirror up to Erica’s behaviour.

The audience are taken to a variety of locations, using a minimalist set and useful lighting cues to help identify time changes. Kit Sinclair’s character Stevie represents’ the ideal,’ her cool collected performance runs solidly through the show, which complements the energetic rhythm of the storytelling. The play touches on how it feels to not be on the ‘cool list,’ for queer culture and explores the lengths we’ll go to justify bad behaviour before taking responsibility for it.

WANTED plays at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025 until 24 August
