Herod Casting Announced for Jesus Christ Superstar at Theatre Royal Drury Lane

Further casting has been unveiled for Jesus Christ Superstar, which will head to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane from October, after its summer debut at the London Palladium. Eight actors will share the role of Herod, with one final King to be announced for the final week of performances between 4 to 9 January 2027.

Joining Sam Ryder will be Matt Bomer (White Collar) from 16 – 31 October; Rob Brydon(Gavin and Stacey) from 2 – 7 November; Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen) from 9 – 14 November; Bob The Drag Queen (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) from 16 – 21 November; Michael Ball (Hairspray) from 23 November – 5 December; Simon Russell Beale (The Death of Stalin) from 7 – 12 December; Omid Djalili (Gladiator) from 14 – 19 December; and Layton Williams (Titanique) from 21 December 2026 to 2 January 2027, who returns to the stage having played 2 weeks at The London Palladium in August.

There’s a real buzz about this show, which is directed by Tim Sheader with choreography by Olivier Award-winner Drew McOnie and design by Tony and Olivier Award-winner Tom Scutt. This reunites the creative team of the 2016 production 10 years on to create a unique staging of their Olivier Award-winning, worldwide smash-hit production.

Jesus Christ Superstar will play at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane for a 12-week engagement from 16 October to 9 January 2027. Tickets are now on sale.
