Boxless Ideas is a new production company created by Tito Espinosa & Cameron Collins, who are striving to bring new and exciting concepts to the London theatre scene. With the goal to think outside the box and create evenings which celebrate the industry and the people involved within it, last night saw their first concert at Phoenix Arts Club.

First Times… Out of the Box is a cabaret-style show in which the performers sang a selection of songs which remind them of their first times… whether that be their first rejection in an audition, or in dating, the evening was a joyous celebration of how these first times help mould the people we are today. A deliciously MT set list, it was a theatregoer’s dream evening. A perfect mix of gorgeous music and immense talent, it felt like a beautifully collaborative evening, and the community both on and off stage shone throughout.

Considering this is their first official concert is remarkable - the level of professionalism and sickness was extremely impressive, and their understanding of the show’s intent and structure felt like it was met with great experience.

The casting for the cabaret was impressive also, so often casts can feel a little forced with how it almost feels like a “box ticking” exercise; however, Boxless Ideas wonderfully cast the show, and it felt so natural and organic, and very present. It was extremely special to be in such a comfortable and confident room, and it feels so refreshing that companies like Boxless Ideas are breaking into the scene.

Despite the calibre of talent being equally impressive, notable performances were by Joseph Craig, whose Broadway medley was beautifully joyous, and Elysia Boyle - whose stage presence was incredibly powerful.

Boxless Ideas may just be getting started, but already feel like a successful company - their goals and path is so assured, they’re certainly one to watch. I look forward to seeing what’s next for them and where they will go.
