Queen is Back at Teatre Apolo, Barcelona Review
Teatre Apolo in Barcelona has hosted several tribute bands, such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and even Michael Jackson. This time, it was Queen’s turn.
Queen is Back is looking to recreate Queen’s concerts with a two-hour show featuring the band’s most iconic songs.
Daniele Fasciani leads the band as Freddie Mercury, with an incredible likeness to the singer, spot-on mannerisms, and a voice that sounds very close to the original. He fills the stage with his energy and passion, and it’s obvious he has the utmost respect for Freddie Mercury. On stage, he is accompanied by the exceptionally talented Giacomo Figliolino as Brian May, Roberto Damicis as Roger Taylor and Julio Llorca as John Deacon.
There was a screen onstage that featured some clips, snippets of music videos and live performances and the like during the concert. Rather than distracting, I found the videos were cleverly placed and only accentuated the spectacle; I found it very impressive that they managed to synchronise them so precisely that the Freddie on screen was singing the same lyrics as the performer onstage. The lights were also incredibly well-timed and added to the overall concert experience.
Several people around me looked visibly emotional, and some were even in tears, as they watched the band perform Queen’s songs. The very talented performers were able to evoke Queen’s energy and transport the audience back in time. It was really beautiful to see the magic happen in real time. The audience absolutely had a blast and it had a visible impact on the band as well.
Queen is Back only had one scheduled concert in Barcelona, but will hopefully be back soon. In the meantime, they will be heading to Valencia on August 26th. You can keep up with the band’s whereabouts on their Instagram profile.
