SIX The Musical, World Tour 2025 Review
Written by Laura for Theatre and Tonic
Henry VIII’s six (ex)wives have landed in Spain and they’re ready to tell their side of the story through the catchiest pop songs! I have been worried for a while about the age demographic of people who go to the theatre in Catalonia and Spain, as I’m usually one of the youngest wherever I go. However, upon arriving at the Teatre Coliseum, I saw a multitude of younger people filling the street in colourful outfits, donning gorgeous Boleyn buns and incredible makeup inspired by the show.
This excitement translated to the stalls, where people clapped and cheered in a way I’ve rarely seen before, but always maintaining the utmost respect and quieting whenever necessary. The energy was incredible, and I think the queens could feel it!
Speaking of the queens, they were all absolutely fabulous. The current company features Billie Kerr as Catherine of Aragon, Yna Tresvalles as Anne Boleyn, Liberty Stottor as Jane Seymour, Hannah Victoria as Anna of Cleves, Lizzie Emery as Katherine Howard and Eloise Lord as Catherine Parr. The songs are incredibly challenging, and I went in expecting some imperfections, but I could hear none. The riffs were flawless, and their voices were completely in sync. Each actress shone during her solo but also worked to highlight her fellow castmates during theirs. They all stood out in their own right. Special mention goes to Billie Kerr as Aragon, who kept saying little phrases in Spanish; fitting, as the one queen of Spanish origin! I thought it was a very cute and thoughtful detail.
The set is flashy but quite simple, just like the one on the West End or Broadway, as far as I can tell. It makes for a very portable but still pleasing-looking design.
I had seen the outfits in pictures before and thought they were fine. However, when I saw them glittering under the lights and started to notice the details of Gabriella Slade’s costume design, I fell irrevocably in love with them. Each of the costumes represents the characters very well, and it makes it very easy to distinguish the actresses even from a distance.
I had a wonderful time watching this show. Although I do feel it’s a bit short, it’s fully packed with incredible songs, jokes, and moments of sisterhood.
Six will be playing at Teatre Coliseum, Barcelona, until May 11th. After that, it will transfer to Shanghai on May 21st. You can also catch it in London, throughout the UK and in cinemas as well.
