Lolo’s Boyfriend Show, Haldane Theatre at theSpace @ Surgeons' Hall Review

Written by Brian N Keachie for Theatre & Tonic
On a quiet night at the Fringe, just 13 of us gathered in the Haldane Theatre to watch this intimate one-woman show. Lolo’s Boyfriend Show tells the story of a young woman’s search for love — part confessional, part alternative comedy, and part social observation.
The script is layered and introspective, exploring the complexities of relationships and personal longing. It’s the sort of piece that invites you to think, rather than sit back and switch off — and that may resonate strongly with some audiences, especially those who enjoy subtle, reflective theatre.

The performer, Lauren O’Brien, is a talented actress with a strong stage presence, tackling a demanding role with commitment and energy. She worked hard to connect with the audience and delivered her material with conviction.
While it didn’t quite click for me personally — perhaps due to the late hour and the show’s deeper, slower-burn style — I can see this finding its audience among Fringe-goers looking for something thoughtful, intimate, and off the beaten track.
Lolo’s Boyfriend Show plays at Haldane Theatre at theSpace @ Surgeons' Hall until 16 August
