On the evening of Sunday 18th October, the gorgeous Actors Church in Covent Garden hosted a unique event, at which renowned artist Frances Segelman sculpted a faithful portrait of the face of the UK’s favourite traitor, Richard E Grant.
Dressed in a sparkling Kruszynska gown, Segelman expertly got to work, remarkably only taking two hours to complete the most part of the project. This was followed by a short Q&A, during which Grant’s warm personality shone through with every answer he gave.
Renowned for the speed, precision and spontaneity of her live sculpting, Frances Segelman has previously created portraits of some of Britain’s most recognisable figures across film, theatre, music, politics, sport and royalty, including Ray Winstone, Dame Judi Dench and King Charles.

A distinguished stage and screen actor, Richard E Grant has become one of Britain's most recognisable actors and cultural figures. Off the back of his appearance on Celebrity Traitors, during which he implemented an “interesting” strategy (!), he is currently starring in Noel Coward’s Hayfever (at Wyndham’s Theatre until Saturday 12th December).. The event provided an opportunity to see him in an unusual role: not as performer, but as the subject of a portrait created live before an audience.
The evening was a great success, raising funds for the Longfield Hospice in Gloucestershire. The hospice provides specialist care and support to people affected by life-limiting illness across the local community and was chosen by Grant as the nominated Charity for the evening, after they cared for his wife Joan Washington before she passed away.
