Written by Roni.

October is shaping up to be an exciting month for theatre across the UK, with intriguing new shows opening, and a few old favourites returning. There are so many that you can see but here’s a list of 10 theatre shows to see in October 2023.

Treason The Musical, UK Tour

Finally getting its world production premiere, Treason is one of the hottest tickets in town as we approach Guy Fawkes night. Following an online concert during the pandemic and two sold-out concerts in 2022 featuring a host of West End stars, we’re at last getting to see a full-scale production of the musical drama based on the gunpowder plot. The show then continues on a whistlestop tour of Sheffield, London and Dartmouth

Dear England, Prince Edward Theatre

Following a sold-out run at the National Theatre earlier this year, Dear England, the story of Gareth Southgate’s journey to lead England to international victory is transferring to the West End. This one features a stellar cast playing the squad we know and love, led by Joseph Fiennes as the main man himself. This isn’t a play just for football fans!

The Good Enough Mums Club, Birmingham Hippodrome

The Good Enough Mums Club is a group of mums aiming to challenge the ‘perfectionist’ view of motherhood by representing reality, snot and all. Their musical following a group of mums as they navigate early parenthood has had various stagings before, and now they are embarking on a short tour, starting at Birmingham Hippodrome, soon to be the home of new musical theatre in the UK.

Sinatra The Musical, Birmingham Rep

This brand new musical from Joe DiPietro and Kathleen Marshall is generating a buzz as it opens in Birmingham for its world premiere. Starring Tony Award winner Matt Doyle as Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, the show, as the title suggests, follows the life of Frank Sinatra and features more than 20 of his biggest hits.

Noises Off, Theatre Royal Haymarket

Returning to the West End following a critically acclaimed run earlier this year, Noises Off promises to be as hilarious as ever. With a star-studded cast featuring Felicity Kendal, Tamzin Outhwaite and Mathew Horne as an ill-fated touring theatre company, it’s sure to bring some light-hearted joy to the Haymarket.

The Book Thief, Curve

Those who loved the book growing up will are eagerly awaiting the musical adaptation of this children’s classic. Already having enjoyed brief stagings in Coventry and Bolton, The Book Thief is a story of a young girl fighting back against book banning in Nazi Germany, now arriving in Leicester with an adaption by renowned author Jodi Picoult.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Noel Coward Theatre

The Ocean at the End of the Lane is returning to London for a strictly limited 7-week run, fresh off the back of a highly acclaimed UK tour. The show tells of a man who is transported back to his 12th birthday when he visits a pond at his childhood home, before facing ancient forces who threaten to destroy them. This has been a hit with audiences all over and is not to be missed.

Boy Parts, Soho Theatre

Based on the hit novel by Eliza Clark, Boy Parts follows Irina, a budding photographer who perhaps bites off more than she can chew when she is offered for her explicit photographs of average men to be displayed at a London gallery. The show is adapted by Gillian Greer and is playing a limited 6-week run at Soho Theatre.

Peter Pan Goes Wrong UK Tour

Mischief is back on tour across the UK with their smash hit production of Peter Pan Goes Wrong. The Cornley Drama Society return with many a mishap as they try to stage the classic tale of a boy who never grew up. If you fancy laughing until your face hurts, then this is for you.

The Full Monty, UK Tour

The Fully Monty is also returning to stages across the UK in 2023/24, with a phenomenal cast including Bill Ward, Jake Quickenden, as well as recently Danny Hatchard who will play Clyde on the Bonnie and Clyde UK Tour soon. Adapted from the much-loved 1997 film, we meet a group of down-on-their-luck men from Sheffield, who decide to try their hand at stripping to pull themselves back from the brink. Heart-warming and hilarious, this modern classic is perfect for girls’ night.
