Lead casting announced for UK premiere of Jane Eyre The Musical

West End stars Charlie Burn (Mean Girls) and Ashley Gilmour (The Phantom of the Opera) will lead as Jane and Rochester in the UK premiere of Jane Eyre, a reimagined production of John Caird and Paul Gordon’s musical. Olivier and Tony Award-winner John Caird will co-direct the musical alongside Broadway star Megan McGinnis.

Based on the novel by Charlotte Brontë, the story charts Jane’s journey from a cruelly-used orphan to independent womanhood, centring on the dark and beautiful Thornfield Hall and its owner, the mysterious and conflicted Edward Rochester. Here Jane is caught up in a web of secrets and lies, physical and moral danger, self-doubt, betrayal and heart-breaking loss.

Jane Eyre originally made its debut in Toronto in 1996 before subsequently being produced on Broadway in 2000, where it was nominated for five Tony Awards. Adam Blanshay Productions is partnering with the original Canadian producers, David and Hannah Mirvish, for the 30th Anniversary year of the show.

Jane Eyre will play at the Southwark Playhouse Elephant from 28 August to 24 October 2026. Tickets are now on sale at https://southwarkplayhouse.co.uk/ and further information about the musical can be found on JaneEyreonStage.com.
